A fashionable twist on a Mallorcan icon
Belmond has commissioned acclaimed designer, Matthew Williamson to design a suite at Belmond La Residencia, Mallorca. Opening in April 2018, ‘Suite 67’ is set to feature Williamson’s signature vibrant colours, rich botanicals and luxe textures, all combined with a rustic decadence.
Matthew brings his signature interior aesthetic whilst honouring the heritage and traditional Mallorcan feel of the property. Each space will have a distinct mood, balancing contemporary playful designs with eye-catching hues and hand-drawn fauna and floral patterns.
The one-bed suite will feature an outdoor snug, private pool and garden, luxurious living space and a vibrant bathroom; set to be one of the most fashionable spaces on the island.
Botanical Escapism
Inspired by Belmond La Residencia’s enchanting gardens; Williamson’ designs will bring the outside in so guests will feel connected to the natural surroundings. Walls will be adorned with botanical artworks and hand drawn painting of birds of the island.
Matthew comments, ‘The hotel’s location could not be more magical and unique, it oozes a very subtle, understated sophistication and Suite 67 is a one-of-a-kind space to escape, relax and indulge in for both the modern and traditional traveller. It has been a real passion project to work in a place I have a genuine connection with’.
Entering through the snug, guests are drawn into the perfect location to sit and take time. Matthew’s signature wallpaper, Rosanna Trellis, adorns the walls of the bedroom, featuring a striking bed lacquered in Yves Klein electric blue. The living space is highlighted with Matthew’s decorative upholstery fabrics all set against soft pink blush walls. A vintage roll-top bath sits proudly in the bathroom. The private garden and pool area will feature designs inspired by the glamour of 1950s Palm Springs and California.
Designs of Deia
Deia is the artistic hub of Mallorca, drawing the world’s creative legends to the idyllic village in the heart of the mountains, including legendary wordsmith, Robert Graves and now Matthew is the village’s latest artistic resident.
Belmond La Residencia is the beating heart of Deia and provides a complete escape filled with artistic spirit. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, olive groves and sea views, the property is home to a vast collection of artwork, both inside and throughout the gardens and has a strong connection to the Spanish art scene for many years. Currently home to the largest exhibition of Miró paintings on display in a hotel anywhere in the world until September 2020, the property also has an in-house artist on hand to help guests develop sculpture and drawing skills at various workshops throughout the season.

Matthew Williamson is a British design house founded in 1997. It is renowned for its use of kaleidoscopic colour, intricate patterns and designs inspired by nature and travel.
A graduate from the prestigious Central Saint Martins College, Matthew Williamson showed his critically-acclaimed debut collection ‘Electric Angels’ in 1997.
