Located amidst Bangkok’s newest iconic landmark and destination, King Power Mahanakhon, Wilson Associates’ latest food and beverage project, Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar, will be Thailand’s highest restaurant and rooftop bar. Situated on the 76th and 77th floor of King Power Mahanakhon, it will serve as a restaurant, elegant bar and entertainment venue. The new sky-high dining destination will offer up to 360-degree panoramic views of the city, and seeks to become an instant destination for both locals and far-away travelers.
Marrying French elegance with Thai culture, Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar’s design creates an intimate spot for neighbors and visitors alike to grab a drink or bite to eat. Leveraging a warm and natural color and materials palette for the interiors, the design team drew inspiration from bespoke Haute couture, balancing refinement with the durability required for the space’s dynamic range of programming. The scheme for the outdoor terrace plays on the concept of an urban jungle, surrounding guests in abundant greenery to evoke the feeling of a forest in the sky.
As visitors enter the space, they are greeted by a large sculpture of a bull head, which serves as an anchor for the restaurant’s experience, not only standing as the patron’s first encounter in the space, but also weaving the design scheme together through the use of a single symbol. A wooden-paneled corridor extends a warm welcome, ushering guests further into Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar’s highly flexible, yet refined interior. Lined with decorative artwork, the corridor leads to a white marble bar, which sits within a textured-glass alcove. The bar area has room for 120 patrons.
A nine-person VIP lounge and spacious mezzanine sits atop a patchwork lacquer staircase, echoing the warm color palette found throughout Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar’s interior. Small tables with bamboo inlays dotted throughout serve as a nod to Thai culture, and create continuity with the bar’s sweeping views of Bangkok, strategically positioned to awe visitors from near and far. Once complete, Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar will be open for dinner with lively entertainment starting from July 2019.
