07 Nov The ‘Must-do’ List from Belmond – Inspiring and Unforgettable Travel Moments for 2016
The Belmond List, a calendar of inspirational travel experiences from across the portfolio’s 47 hotels, safari lodges, river cruises and luxury trains brings 2016 to a close with a spiritual ceremony in Machu Picchu and the ultimate culinary journey combining rail and Michelin-starred dining in the English countryside.
This month, Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel located next to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu, Peru, invites guests to discover ancient traditions in a setting surrounded by nature. The Pachamama ritual ($350 per person) is based on mystical practices of Andean communities which honor the Incan goddess of Mother Nature, believed to help renew both body and soul. An Andean shaman leads an hour long ceremony in the hotel’s tranquil gardens, involving natural perfumes and singing in the Quechua language after which guests can offer their thanks to Mother Earth by giving fresh flowers or local grains. Guests can leave Machu Picchu with a deeper connection to the traditions and culture of Peru and renewed sense of inner calm for their onward journey.
This festive season, devotees of fine cuisine can travel with friends and family aboard the magical Belmond British Pullman combined with a lunch at the two Michelin-starred countryside escape, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons (tickets from £585 per adult). Stepping aboard the beautifully restored vintage carriages, guests can sit back and relax in the surroundings of the roaring 1920s as the train whisks passengers away from the bustle of London to leafy Oxfordshire. En route, guests will be served a delicious three-course morning brunch by liveried stewards before disembarking for a private transfer to Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.
First created by Raymond Blanc OBE, the acclaimed restaurant and hotel will welcome visitors for a creative three-course lunch using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients which includes many elements picked from the 90 types of vegetable and over 70 varieties of herb in the hotel’s organic-certified kitchen gardens. Guests can stroll through acres of lawn, manicured gardens and heritage orchards before returning to the train for a British cheese board, dessert and refreshments with petit fours, as they travel back to London after a day of gastronomic delights. The ultimate culinary experience is available for one day only, 8th December, and will see the train depart from London Victoria station.
