31 Mar Aman Venice: Beyond Water and Sky
Aman Venice is honoured to welcome on behalf of Christie’s, one of the preeminent contemporary Japanese sculptors of this age, Kan Yasuda, in an exhibition showcasing six monumental sculptures throughout the Aman property, parallel to the 57th Art Biennale.
Mr. Yasuda, who resides in Italy, is known for creating works primarily in white marble and bronze that reflect the organic elements of the natural world. His sculpture is engaging in form and material. It evokes a profound harmony between nature and the viewer that is reminiscent of the essence of Aman, which means peace. Inspired during his two visits to Aman Venice, whose gardens and spaces set a poignant backdrop for art intended to be touched and experienced, Mr. Yasuda carefully selected each place for the exhibition entitled, Between Water and Sky.
The exhibition is on view at Aman Venice from 10th May – 5th November 2017.
Kan Yasuda was born in the city of Bibai on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, in 1945. He received a Master’s degree in Sculpture from Toyko National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1969, and moved to Italy in 1970, where he studied with Professor Pericle Fazzini at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Mr. Yasuda went on to set up his own studio in Pietrasanta, in northern Italy, which is well-known for its superior-grade marble.
